The Determination of Zinc in Biological Materials*

چکیده
The occurrence of zinc in biological materials is no longer a matter of conjecture. The presence of zinc in all plants and lower animals so far studied, as well as its occurrence not only in the whole body of the higher animals but in the individual tissues such as liver, kidney, muscle, etc., has been established beyond doubt. In 1926, Lutz (1) reviewed very completely our knowledge concerning the occurrence and distribution of this element in biological materials. A study of the figures presented in this review reveals that the great discrepancies in the values obtained by different workers for like materials can only be partially accounted for by variations in the zinc content of the samples; the greater part of the differences must be due to the lack of standard methods of analysis. Workers have suggested various functions of zinc in the metabolism of plants and animals. A review by Drinker and Collier (2), however, shows that no specific activity has as yet been ascribed to this element. The lack of available methods for the accurate estimation of zinc seems to be the limiting factor in the continuation of this work. In our attempts to utilize certain of the published methods for the estimation of zinc in plant and animal tissues, considerable difficulty was encountered. The methods which gave fairly accurate results in our hands were exceedingly time-consuming. With other methods we were unable to obtain consistent values. Attempts to modify parts of various methods in order to adapt

Determination of zinc serum in the workers of sarcheshme copper complex
Zinc is one of the essential elements in biological system. The role of this element in many enzymes has been proved. Zinc has an antagonistic effect on the toxic elements such as cadmium, as both binds to a carrier protein called metalothionein . Zinc can be found in atmosphere of different industrial environment. Due to its importance, it's concentration in the serum of 399 Male workers of sa...

متن کاملDetermination of the serum level of aluminum & zinc in hemodialysis patients in Kerman,Iran
Dialysis is one of the effective methods which has been used since 1955 for the treatment of patients suffering from renal failure( more often of its chronic type). The dialysis results in the elimination of waste materials like urea and creatinine from the body, on the other hand, it can affect the serum contamination of the dialysis fluid. Aluminium is one of trace elements which its serum le...
متن کاملZinc based bioalloys processed by severe plastic deformation – A review
Zinc based alloys have recently attracted great attention as promising biodegradable metals. Zinc exhibits moderate degradation rates in biological fluid and the zinc releases during the degradation process is considered safe to human systems. However, these materials exhibit critical limitations in terms of mechanical properties for medical applications. Adding alloying elements as well as gra...
متن کاملThe Effect of Oral Co-Administration of Zinc Sulfate and Vanadium on The Level of Blood Sugar in Streptozosin Induced Diabetic Rats
Background & Objectives: Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common endocrine disorders affecting millions of people worldwide. Here, the effects of co-administration of zinc and vanadium sulfate on blood glucose levels in diabetic animals were studied. Notably, the study on the effects of the separation of zinc and vanadium has been done previously. Materials &methods: Moderate diabetic hype...
متن کاملPreparation, characterization and determination of photocatalytic activity of MCM-41/ZnO and MCM-48/ZnO nanocomposites
The direct and indirect methods in solvent media and grinding method in a solvent-free media were used to prepare the MCM-41/ZnO and MCM-48/ZnO photocatalysts. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns showed that zinc oxide nanoparticles were put into MCM-41 and MCM-48 substrates and there were ZnO crystallites as secondary phase in the extra framework of mesoporous materials. The decrease of surfa...
